Sentimental, Minimalist Gift Ideas for this Holiday Season
Below is a list of my favorite sentimental, minimalist gift ideas. Each of these presents are really intentional and thoughtful. A common theme threaded throughout each gift is creating and preserving meaningful memories and experiences.
Our Christmas Story by Korie Herold
This beautiful vintage design keepsake book is intended to document & preserve Christmas memories together. The prompts are memory based and centered around the Christmas season. Perfect for a family or couple to write in together and holds 10 years worth of Christmas memories.
TisBest Philanthropy is a 501c3 nonprofit organization dedicated to redefining gift giving through philanthropy and replacing gifts of stuff with the gift of “good”. TisBest creates Charity Gift Cards so that you can give non-material gifts, spread more good deeds in the world, and help gift recipients support the causes they love!
The Gift of Time
Nothing new here, but a selfless act such as offering to run errands, babysit for the kids so parents can go out for a date night together, complete a house project that needs tending to, offer to clean, etc. are all very appreciated gift ideas.
To make this feel even more personal, write the gift you are giving on a card, or think of a cute way to wrap up the idea. Maybe presenting the gift as part of a scavenger hunt to make offering the present an experience all in itself.
Or, if gifting a “date night” for parents, provide them with a gift card to their favorite restaurant, or print out a little calendar and wrap it up with a pen for them to mark the date of their choosing right then and there. No excuses or reasons to put off the idea!
Photo calendars, in my opinion, are truly a gift that gives all year long (literally) and is quite underrated! I love that this tradition serves multiple purposes:
- Serves as both a useful planning tool AND beautiful, personalized artwork for the home.
- Encourages me to capture more photos throughout the year, especially with grandparents or other significant family members so that I have a nice collection for the calendar each year.
- Helps me comb through and organize my pictures since I have no other choice but stay organized for the calendar each year.
Personalized Portrait Ornaments
For the last two years I have also ordered these stunning line art acrylic ornaments from Hartsy Design. Harita is such a talented artist. This ornament is a beautifully minimal design, which makes the sentiment stand out even more. Customized with a portrait, this will always be a heartfelt keepsake. You may choose to have a line art portrait only or add some color to it and even a year or a short text.
A date, dinner, lunch, hike, weekend getaway, amusement park visit, trip to the museum, a picnic at the park, a picnic indoors near the fire? A cooking class, in person or virtual? Any class you can take together? Experience gifts are so special because they are one of the most personalized gifts you can give, are catered to the specific interests of the recipient, and can be completely free (a hike) or a bit more indulgent if you choose (a getaway).
Though I haven’t used the site myself, I did come across Virgin Experience Gifts, which offers gift cards so your recipient will be able to choose from adventure activities, driving experiences, spa pampering, scenic cruises and more.
One of my favorite ideas I came across this season was The Adventure Challenge. The concept? Scratch off adventures for every relationship. With so many options for couples, families, blind dates, or even solo adventures, the company creates books which include 50 Scratch-Off Adventures. I love that the book not only has the adventure ideas, but also includes a space for reflecting and placing photos of the adventure, so it becomes a cherished scrapbook. They also have a subscription date box for couples as well.
